Where to Stay Near Jokulsarlon Lagoon: Planning Your Visit

Getting there
Hornafjordur Airport is about 5 km north of Hofn town. Flights from Reykjavik take about 55 minutes.
Because the airport is close to Hofn, the town is a reference point when you plan your arrival and onward travel to the lagoon.
Choosing when to visit
The months you travel may affect which activities you can do, so decide your dates before you book a base. Amphibious boat tours run from May to November. Zodiac tours run from May to October. Kayaking runs from May to September.
Ice cave tours run from October to April. The northern lights season runs from September to April.
If you want to combine boat or kayak tours with the northern lights, September and October overlap with the northern lights season. Kayaking is available only until September, and Zodiac tours run until October.
